How to convert milliwatts to watts (mW to W)
The formula for converting milliwatts to watts is: W = mW × 0.001. To calculate the milliwatt value in watts first substitute the milliwatt value into the preceding formula, and then perform the calculation. If we wanted to calculate 1 milliwatt in watts we follow these steps:
W = mW × 0.001
W = 1 × 0.001
W = 0.001
In other words, 1 milliwatt is equal to 0.001 watts.
Example Conversion
Let's take a look at an example. The step-by-step process to convert 5 milliwatts to watts is:
- Understand the conversion formula: W = mW × 0.001
- Substitute the required value. In this case we substitute 5 for mW so the formula becomes: W = 5 × 0.001
- Calculate the result using the provided values. In our example the result is: 5 × 0.001 = 0.005 W
In summary, 5 milliwatts is equal to 0.005 watts.
Converting watts to milliwatts
In order to convert the other way around i.e. watts to milliwatts, you would use the following formula: mW = W × 1000. To convert watts to milliwatts first substitute the watt value into the above formula, and then execute the calculation. If we wanted to calculate 1 watt in milliwatts we follow these steps:
mW = W × 1000
m1 = W × 1000
mW = 1000
Or in other words, 1 watt is equal to 1000 milliwatts.
